This antique dental phantom head once had a pretty fascinating purpose apart from being downright creepy. Offered for sale through the oddities and antique shop OffBeat and Odd, these dental phantom heads help dental students prepare for procedures without having to practice on actual people.

Acquired in Japan, the phantom heads in this collection date back to the 1930s or 40s. Little else is known about them, including the specific manufacturer.

Also known as a dental phantom, give that a Google and strap in for some seriously weird images. Edward Oswald Fergus (1861-1946), an alumnus of the University of Glasgow, is credited for inventing the dental phantom and revolutionizing dental training procedures. There have been several evolutions of the dental phantom, but they are still in use today.
