Octopuses have long been the subject of fascination and intrigue for artists all over the world. Some have taken the depiction of these curious eight-limbed creatures to a whole new level by creating unusual and unique pieces that further embody their mysterious nature.

From sculptures made out of recycled materials to surrealistic paintings, the creativity and imagination put into these pieces are truly extraordinary. Some artists even go as far as using actual octopus ink to create their masterpieces.

The interpretations and symbolism surrounding this peculiar sea animal range widely but with some common themes. Some say they’re altruistic, empathetic and extremely selfless. Others point to their perplexing behavior as a representation of the mysteries of the unknown.

Of their long list of attributes - strength, dexterity, focus, awareness, and so on - the octopus is probably best known for its intelligence. These animals have the largest brain-to-body ratio of any invertebrate, and they share human genes. They can use tools, wiggle in and out of odd-shaped containers, and they recognize faces, just to name a few of their clever skills.

Not to mention, their bodies are just inherently odd. Their arms are adorned with dozens of suckers, they change color and texture, and they can camouflage themselves into any environment.
