When we saw these gorgeous vintage tarot cards offered by Matts Curio Cabinet (one of our fav Etsy sellers), we just knew we had to delve deeper into these cool cards and their curious backstory.

Tarot cards are a fascinating and mysterious tool with a long and complex history. The origins of tarot are somewhat shrouded in mystery, but most scholars agree that they were created in Italy during the 15th century, initially as a simple deck of playing cards. From the 19th century on, the cards evolved into a divination tool, with each card representing a different aspect of life or personality.

One of the oldest surviving tarot card decks was thought to have been made for Filippo Maria Visconti, the last Duke of Milan, prior to his death in 1447.

The symbolism of tarot cards is complex and often open to interpretation. Each card in the deck represents a different archetype, such as the Fool, the Magician, the High Priestess, and the Empress. The Fool, for example, represents new beginnings and taking risks, while the Empress represents nurturing, fertility, and creativity.

Over the centuries, tarot has gained a devoted following among those who seek spiritual guidance and insight into their own lives. Today, there are countless different tarot decks available, each with its own unique symbolism and interpretation. Tarot readers combine intuition, psychic abilities, and knowledge of the cards to provide readings for clients seeking guidance and advice.

For tarot practitioners and curiosity collectors, there are several fascinating vintage tarot cards that reach both into the past and future through their unique artwork and unusual aesthetics.
