The cabin at grass river retreat

october 1, 2020

If you’re looking for Wyoming cabin rentals on your way to or from Yellowstone’s South Entrance, we just discovered a darling riverfront vacation spot that is the perfect getaway to relax by the fire, stargaze, and watch wildlife.

There are two cabins for rent at Grass River Retreat on Airbnb, including a larger 3-bedroom + 1.5-bath home and a studio cabin right across the creek. Just being the two of us, we rented the smaller cabin. Despite its proximity to the main house, the setting feels totally private. On the edge of a tranquil brook, you have a small piece of nature all to yourself, and there’s a fire pit and Adirondack-style chairs to take in the view. Deer came up to our front porch throughout our stay, which was a nice treat for a couple of Denver-based urbanites.

The space itself is extremely clean, and I don’t mean just tidy, which it absolutely is. But it’s clear that owners Stacey and Marty have a higher standard in this area. The couple has traveled and stayed in many Airbnb rentals themselves, and they learned quickly what other hosts tend to slack on.

As a result, this is probably the cleanest vacation rental I’ve ever stayed in. I can think of one other that rivals it, a restored Trolley Car in Old Colorado City. In the cabin, there was even one of those portable UV light sanitizer wands on the counter, which I learned later uses UV-C light to help eliminate bacteria, viruses, and other surface germs. Cool.

Grass River Retreat wouldn’t be convenient as a home base to explore Yellowstone as a day trip, unless you’re planning an extended stay in the area. It’s about a three-hour drive to get to the closest entrance. But considering the limited Airbnbs near Yellowstone, travelers from Colorado or other southern locations might consider an overnight or two in Yellowstone itself, and then staying at Grass River Retreat on your way home or vice versa. This is basically what we did, staying in our Honda Element Camper for two nights in the park itself, and then heading here to relax for two nights before returning home.

There are so many things to do in Yellowstone, and it’s such a vast territory that driving through it becomes downright exhausting.
