Loom Footwear Review

November 18, 2021

I hike several times each week, both for this blog and for my personal enjoyment and sanity. Here in Colorado where we’re based, we have very bipolar weather. It’s a place where you embrace layers and a general unknown about the weather and trail conditions. I usually take about three different coats with me wherever I go and at least two different types of shoes, plus Yaktrax. Truthfully, the back of our Element Camper can get a bit ridiculous.

So when Loom offered to send me a pair of their Vegan Waterproof Sneakers, I was super excited to test them out.

And for the sake of full disclosure, we’re also an affiliate with Loom. That means if you purchase through our affiliate link, we’ll earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. But even if we weren’t an affiliate with Loom, I’d still be writing this review post. Because when it really comes down to it, we love to share cool things that our readers might enjoy. We also love to support small businesses and brands that create well-made and sustainable products. Also, I happen to love dry, cozy feet!

Ok, so onto what’s so cool about Loom Footwear.

First, I want to share that I took these shoes right out of the box and went on a 5-mile hike. I didn’t break them in around the house. I just laced them up and went.

As anyone who’s ever done this knows, wearing new shoes on a hike is always a bit of a risk. Blisters and weird rawness from where it can rub against different parts of your foot are just a bummer. With these Loom shoes, there was none of that! And they were quite a bit warmer than my more rugged go-to hiking shoe.

I’ve also been looking for shoes that keep my feet supported. After a ton of training hikes to prepare for my first 14er (local slang for a 14,000-foot mountain), I developed plantar fasciitis in my foot. Yay, pain! And I was informed by a few different doctors that years of choosing flat and unsupportive slip-on footwear probably didn’t help.

After a few subsequent test walks, I really think these Loom sneakers are going to be my new everyday walking shoes. I’m not a runner, so I don’t have a good sense of whether they would be comfortable while jogging a 5k. But so far I really love the arch and heel support, the overall quality, the rugged sole, and the overall minimalistic look.

What about sizing?

I’m typically an 8.5 in a women’s shoe. Loom doesn’t carry half sizes, so I opted to go for an 8. As a result, they’re slightly snug on me. But I also don’t wear heavy socks all too often, so I think it’s actually a good fit. With that said, if you’re in between sizes like me but you like to wear thick socks, I definitely recommend rounding up versus down.

Are they really waterproof?

Loom Waterproof Sneakers are definitely water-resistant, and I would absolutely trust them for a wet hike or long, rainy walk. I haven’t been in either of these conditions yet, but I did splash around in the Platte River in downtown Denver to see for myself. I walked around in about 3-5 inches of water, and my feet stayed completely dry. Pretty cool!

All in all, this is the first sneaker I’ve tried in a long time that I’m excited about owning. Admittedly, it’s mostly because of the waterproof factor. I also love supporting vegan-friendly products, so that’s an added bonus. I also think they would make for a super cool gift idea that not many people own or even know is out there. It would be perfect for anyone who loves to beach walk or get outside rain or shine.

Happy Exploring!
